Tell me about diamond rings

The diamond ring is, without doubt, one of the most spectacular jewelry pieces since time immemorial. It is probably most well known in its use as engagement rings.

The diamond ring became most popular in the 20th century. Though diamonds have been known for over five 500 years, owing to their rarity, a diamond ring was a jewelry affordable only by the very wealthy & the royalty.

Christians started to use rings for their wedding ceremonies in 8th century. Egyptians are known as using wedding ring as a symbol. Wedding rings and bands were mentioned in the hieroglyphics on the walls and tombs.

Until the 15th Century only Kings wore diamonds as a symbol of strength, courage and invincibility. Over the centuries, the faceted diamonds acquired their unique status as the ultimate gift of love. It was said that cupids' arrows were tipped with diamonds.

It wasn't until 1477 when Archduke Maximilian of Austria gave a diamond ring to Mary of Burgundy, that the diamond wedding ring was introduced.

Diamond rings became more commonly purchased after the second world war, with rapid industrialization & the increase in the supply of diamonds making them relatively more affordable to the masses of today. With steady supply, jewelry makers in Europe and America marked a new start in making diamond jewelry, and diamond ring was at the head of it.

Ring with diamonds soon became the preferred ring to be presented as an engagement ring and betrothal ring; diamond wedding rings became an often used accessory at wedding ceremonies. Diamond rings have also evolved to be the newest anniversary rings. In the last two decades, the diamond ring became a perfect and common gift to be presented to a love one for any occasion.

Diamond rings are usually made of gold, platinum, silver, titanium as the base metal. People associate diamonds with best fillings like love, charm, adornment, trust, commitment. Sparkling diamonds placed in beautiful diamond mounting/mountings make all these fillings look really wonderful.

Unlike silver, gold and platinum that have been used as the base metal for many years, Titanium is a new and recent material used in jewelry, specifically in ring making. Titanium has high strength, low weight, is neutral to human body, and does not irritate skin. Titanium rings usually have white color just like white gold and are considered to be more durable than rings made of other metals. Titanium rings mostly come with tension settings for diamonds, pearls, sapphires, and other gemstones. Because of low weight, nice look, easy to clean, titanium rings have become very popular and are today even worn during everyday use.

Today, contemporary diamond ring & diamond jewelry industries embrace almost all styles from old jewelry eras. Thus, it is easy to find antique engagement ring replicas of Victorian, Edwardian, Art Deco styles. If you are wealthy enough, you might even be able to buy an original!
